The You concept is Volvo's follow-up to its Universe concept, the latter unveiled at the Shanghai auto show. Volvo is using these successive concepts to gauge public opinion over a new flagship sedan for the company.
The front of the car gets a typical Volvo grille, but the whole front end is more rounded than you would expect from a Volvo. Around the hood is an odd, horseshoe-shaped rise. The headlights are LEDs, a concept touch now but possible on a future production vehicle, as pricing for this technology lowers.
As a flagship sedan, any production vehicle based on the You would displace the current S80. The current S80 comes with either a 3.2-liter inline six-cylinder engine, or a turbocharged version of the same. Expect a replacement sedan to use similar engine technology.
Volvo uses a fastback design for this sedan, allowing a hatchback. This format is similar to the Audi A7 and Porsche Panamera.
The doors open carriage-style, allowing easy access to individual seats in the front and rear rows. The seats, similar to many concept cars seen at the Frankfurt show, use a thin design that takes up less cabin space than current seats.
Volvo exploits tablet technology in the You concept's cabin. The center display is a touch screen with tabletlike icons. An LCD in the instrument cluster shows route guidance information or other infotainment features.
The rear-seat passengers also get a touch pad.
In what Volvo calls a "luxury box" between the rear seats sits a Hasselblad camera. Hasselblad, also a Swedish company, loaned Volvo the camera to show off in the concept.
