This is Mercedes-Benz's vision for the future of the city bus
The Mercedes-Benz Future Bus is a look at the next generation of public transportation, complete with autonomous features.
If this is what the city bus will become, sign me up.
The Mercedes-Benz Future Bus comes with CityPilot, a largely autonomous driving system.
CityPilot can navigate tunnels, junctions with traffic lights and roads filled with obstacles.
It'll even stop at bus stops, loading and unloading passengers autonomously.
Of course, a driver will still be present in the event human intervention is required.
The interior is just as fancy as the exterior.
Mercedes has already tested its CityPilot system in the Netherlands, covering some 20 kilometers of tunnels, tight turns and highways.
CityPilot works thanks to nearly a dozen cameras, GPS and two different kinds of radar.
Lord knows a bus like this won't be cheap.
Of course, this is just a concept for now, so municipalities shouldn't be foaming at the mouth to get these on roads just yet.
