Stylish Ford Fusion Energi drives electric and hybrid (pictures)

Ford's midsize sedan, the Fusion, comes with a variety of drivetrains. The Fusion can be had with four different gasoline engines, a hybrid drivetrain, and a plug-in hybrid.

The Fusion, sporting this wide-mouth grille, looks attractive with any power source.

Ford calls the plug-in hybrid version the Energi, with badging on the sides and trunk and a charging port on the left-front fender.

The Fusion Energi comes with a 2-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor to drive the front wheels. With a full charge on its 7.6-kilowatt-hour battery, the electric motor can drive it for 21 miles.

The Fusion Energi offers sedan practicality and comfortable transport for five.

LED taillights help save electricity, but Ford does not yet offer LED headlights.

The biggest compromise with the Fusion Energi is trunk space, which gets cut in half compared with that of the standard Fusion.

Even in its lowest SE trim, the Fusion Energi offers power-adjustable front seats and quality cabin materials.

Rear seats offer a good amount of comfort, plus a fold-down console with cupholders.

The Fusion Energi comes standard with the MyFord Touch interface, which includes one 8-inch center touchscreen and two 4.2-inch LCDs to either side of the speedometer.

The steering wheel features quite a few buttons, and all of them are useful and well-placed.

This shifter looks conventional, but it is merely a drive-mode selector, with no actual linkage.

The LCD to the left of the speedometer shows energy usage gauges and remaining electric range.

The LCD on the right of the speedometer includes screens from the infotainment system, with limited control over its functions.

A power flow animation shows when the battery is charging through regenerative braking and when power flows into the motor.

This screen lets owners schedule charging times to take advantage of cheap electricity rates.

MyFord Touch's home screen shows audio, navigation, phone, and climate in four quadrants.

Navigation comes as an optional SD card that plugs into a slot in the console.

Sync Services rely on a connected mobile phone, letting drivers call an automated system for destinations as one feature.

The Fusion Energi includes audio sources such as Bluetooth streaming, HD Radio, and iOS integration through a USB port in the console.

The hands-free phone system includes full voice command and text messaging for phones that support the correct Bluetooth profile.
