Photos: 2009 Jaguar XF
Jaguar's new XF sedan went so quickly from concept to production, that it kept a lot of the high-tech components you usually only see in a concept car. Jaguar has been showing the car at auto shows throughout the year, but as it gets closer to its March 2008 release date, more details become available.
The XF will come in three trim levels, Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Supercharged. The first two models get a 4.2-liter V-8 engine, while the last adds a supercharger. The base model will go for a surprisingly low $49,975, while the Premium Luxury model starts at $55,975 and the supercharged model goes for $62,975.
The XF continues the new design direction that Jaguar launched with the XK. The designs for both cars place Jaguar in the company of modern European luxury cars such as Bentley and Maserati. Jaguar staff at the show insisted the company's product plans would go forward despite the impending sell-off by Ford.
We are most impressed by the dashboard components in the new Jaguar, which come straight from the concept car. With the car turned off, the shifter, which is just a big dial, sits recessed in the console. Likewise, metal panels cover the vents.
When you push the start button, the shifter rises from the console and the vent covers open. The interface for navigation, audio, and cell phone is the same that is used in the XK. The Jaguar XF also gets a 420 watt Bowers and Wilkins surround sound system.
