Jeep Trailpass Concept gives the Compass some extra off-road oomph
The new Compass Trailhawk is plenty capable, but there's always room for improvement.
Jeep's Trailpass Concept is based on the company's new-for-2018 Compass, more specifically, the Trailhawk model.
A modest 1.5-inch lift kit adds a bit of aggression -- and ground clearance.
This concept does a good job of adding some visual toughness to what is likely to largely be a mall crawler of an SUV.
Note the blacked-out head- and taillamp housings.
Those big orange boards are traction mats, useful stuff if you get stuck.
That's a production Mopar/Thule roof rack with basket and bag.
While the side graphics are already available in production Compass models, the hood graphic shown here is custom.
The Trailpass is powered by FCA's 2.4-liter Tigershark four-cylinder paired to a nine-speed automatic. This has not been our favorite powertrain combination in other vehicles.
Other minor tweaks include gloss-black mirror caps and 18-inch alloys, each with single orange pocket accents with a hidden surprise.
Look closely at that orange pocket for one of Jeep's famous Easter Eggs.
Yep, there it is.
