That's one way to get folks excited about the latest Civic Type R.
Honda's just done a very good thing.
The 2017 Civic Type R picked up the front-wheel drive Nüburgring lap record.
That's big news, considering Volkswagen stole it from Honda last May.
The 305-horsepower GTI Clubsport was no match for Honda's new hot hatch.
With a time of 7 minutes, 43.8 seconds, Honda trounced the VW's time by 5.41 seconds, which is practically a lifetime.
With more than 100 corners, the Nürburgring Nordschleife is one of the most challenging tracks out there.
In the US, the Civic Type R will come with 306 horsepower from its 2.0-liter turbocharged I4.
In Europe, there are a few differences under the hood, so it puts out closer to 315 horsepower.
Nevertheless, it's one hell of a hot hatch.
Congrats to Honda on the record!
