Bowlus was acquired by Airstream in 1936, after having built 80 of the riveted-aluminum trailers. In 2013 Bowlus was revived and brought into the 21st century while still maintaining that Art Deco look.
While different finishes are available in the Bowlus Road Chief, they are all impeccably designed and manufactured in the Bowlus factory in Oxnard, California.
If you have $219,000 burning a hole in your pocket, trade up to the Road Chief Limited Edition, with lithium ion phosphate batteries that can power the trailer for a week completely off the grid.
The lightweight trailer means it can be towed by smaller vehicles. Here it's towed by a Bentley Bentayga, but the company claims a Tesla Model X has plenty of power to pull the Road Chief.
