Get to know Ford's new 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 and 10-speed automatic.
Both will be in the forthcoming Raptor, but more basic 2017 F-150s will also come with Ford's new second-generation, 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 and its 10-speed automatic transmission.
The engine truly is a new iteration, sporting a new valvetrain, both port and direct fuel injection and a whole host of efficiency-boosting measures.
Auto stop-start will now be standard on all 3.5-liter F-150s, as well.
While horsepower remains the same, torque jumps to 450 pound-feet, the highest output of any gas or diesel V-6 available in pickups.
The 10-speed automatic will come mated to every 3.5-liter EcoBoost in 2017.
This is the first Ford transmission to lack cast-iron components, in the name of saving weight.
The transmission is capable of skipping gears (both up and down) based on on-the-fly calculations from a number of input variables.
