Ferrari FF (photos)

Ferrari unveiled a video, photos, and specs for a new car today, a four-seat coupe with a V-12 engine. With its 6.3-liter engine and all-wheel-drive, the FF makes it to 62 mph in 3.7 seconds.

Ferrari's video for the FF shows a test mule, a car with a somewhat different body than seen in the final photos. The video is meant to show off the car's all-wheel-drive system.

The FF uses a new engine from Ferrari, a direct-injection 6.3-liter V-12 producing 651 horsepower and 504 pound-feet of torque. The headlights of the FF have the look of those on the 458 Italia, while the grille design is reminiscent of Maserati.

This coupe design is unique for Ferrari, far from the 612 Scaglietti, an earlier four-seat coupe. Ferrari boasts about the FF's 16 cubic feet of cargo space.

The FF is the first Ferrari with an all-wheel-drive system. Ferrari says the system is 50 percent lighter than a typical all-wheel-drive system, and works in tandem with the car's electronic stability systems. The FF also comes with a magnetic active suspension.

The FF shows a pretty radical shift in Ferrari styling, but much of this design was presaged in the Ferrari California, such as the curved rear fenders and the deep side contours.

According to the video Ferrari released, the FF mule was tested in Argentina, France, Italy, Sweden, and Finland.

Ferrari performed a lot of testing on snow-covered roads so it could tune the all-wheel-drive system and related road-holding electronics.

The mule has the same headlights as the production version. Ferrari put cladding over the roof to disguise the swept-back rails.

Although covered in test equipment, it is possible to see some of the dashboard in this video still. The FF uses Ferrari's F1-style gearbox, so there is no clutch pedal.

This video still shows the instrument cluster, similar to other Ferrari models with the tachometer center, speedometer right, and a small color LCD to the left. The LCD can be used to display navigation and vehicle information, such as tire pressure.
