Cao Fei's new BMW Art Car dips its toes into augmented reality
The first Art Car by a Chinese artist takes its work beyond the car itself.

This is the first BMW Art Car by a Chinese artist.
At 39, Cao Fei is also the youngest artist to create a BMW Art Car to date.
The car itself is a M6 GT3 racecar dressed in nothing but its naked carbon fiber.
Using an augmented reality app, spectators can see the car surrounded by streaks of light (like the ones you see here).
Completing the art installation is a video that involves a "time-traveling spiritual practitioner."
The video relates to an old Asian practice that involves blessing new items (like this racecar) with good luck.
It's also the first BMW Art Car to involve a digital component.
It's all pretty awesome, although without the app, it's just a carbon-fiber racecar, which is also pretty neat.
