BMW's 530e iPerformance is ready to rock down to Partially Electric Avenue
The 530e holds to BMW's current technological prowess while helping its owners go green.
Say hello to the first plug-in hybrid BMW 5 Series, the 530e iPerformance.
Its gas engine is a 2.0-liter I4, and it puts out approximately 180 horsepower and 215 pound-feet of torque.
That mates to an electric motor good for 95 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque.
Together, net output is somewhere around 248 horsepower, but it still needs to be verified.
Its 9.2-kWh battery lives under the rear seat, so it won't mess with trunk space.
This is BMW's first plug-in hybrid that can be had with either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.
It's good for about 15 miles of all-electric range.
Its electric motors can keep the car running up to 56 mph, unless you engage Max eDrive mode, then it jumps to 87.
The BMW 530e iPerformance goes on sale in the US this spring, and pricing has yet to be determined.
