Alfa Romeo brings Italian style to its Stelvio SUV

Alfa Romeo's new Stelvio model is its first crossover SUV in the US, joining the existing 4C sports car and Guilia sedan.

The Stelvio is a five-passenger SUV which ranges on the small side, comparable to a Porsche Macan or Audi Q5.

Alfa Romeo plays in the premium market, so the Stelvio, which derives its name from a pass in the Italian alps, goes for a base price of around $42,000.

Style is a high point for the Stelvio, as it sports Alfa Romeo's classic triangular grille.

The hood is inset, allowing for smooth, gapless sheet metal around the fenders.

Lower intakes give the Stelvio an aggressive appearance.

The Stelvio comes with LED daytime running lights, but sticks to older technology with its bi-xenon headlights.

Impressively, Alfa Romeo wrings 280 horsepower out of the 2.0-liter four cylinder engine, largely due to a turbocharger and direct injection.

Rounding out the driveline, the Stelvio comes standard with all-wheel-drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Alfa Romeo keeps the cabin quiet with damping materials and good sealing all around.
