2021 Toyota Supra 3.0: More powerful and willing
Just a year after its arrival, the fifth-generation Toyota Supra is getting a more powerful engine and tighter chassis tuning for 2021.
For the 2021 model year, the Toyota Supra will be packing a more powerful six-cylinder engine and a revised chassis.
When the fifth-generation Supra arrived last year, it featured a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine making 335 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque.
Thanks to a new dual-branch exhaust manifold and new pistons, the 3.0-liter engine in the 2021 Toyota Supra now makes 382 horses and 368 pound-feet of torque.
The sole transmission option for the 2021 Supra is an eight-speed automatic.
Toyota says the new six-cylinder drivetrain gets the Supra to 60 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds, which is down from 4.1 seconds for the 2020 model.
To firm up handling, Toyota has given the 2021 Supra additional bracing under the hood, bump stops and new adaptive damper tuning.
In addition, the 2021 Supra's programming for the power steering, active rear differential and stability control have been revised.
With all the changes, the 2021 Supra 3.0 features less body roll entering turns and additional cornering stability.
A new Supra A91 Edition will be available for 2021. It's built off of the Supra 3.0 and features exclusive and interior touches. Production will be limited to 1,000 units.
The 2021 Toyota Supra 3.0 will go on sale at the end of June. Pricing details aren't available yet, but a small increase from the 2020 model's $49,990 base price, not including $955 for destination, wouldn't be shocking for the additional power and sharper handling.
