2021 Mercedes-Maybach GLS600: When more is more but not too much

This is the 2021 Mercedes-Maybach GLS600, the most opulent of the company's SUVs.

Rolling on 23-inch wheels with enough chrome to blind the sun, the Maybach puts luxury at the forefront.

That's not to say it's the most luxurious car you can buy, that award goes to something more along the lines of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan.

Still, if you'd like a reclining rear seat that is also capable of heating, cooling and massaging, the Maybach might be your jam.

And yes, it can be had with a champagne cooler in the rear seat.

Under the hood is a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 good for 550 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque. 

A unique Maybach drive mode prioritizes comfort for rear-seat passengers.

The Maybach GLS is a thirsty ol' gal, getting a fuel rating of 15 miles per gallon in the city, 19 mpg highway and 16 mpg combined.

The adaptive cruise control can slow the car down based information gathered from the in-dash navigation. 

The steering assist helps drivers get down the road and can even change lanes automatically provided the coast is clear. 

The 2021 Mercedes-Maybach GLS starts at $161,550 including $1,050 for destination. However, with a pricey paint job, the champagne cooler and other options, this example is sitting at $190,000.
