A newly developed 4.0-liter, naturally aspirated boxer six-cylinder engine powers the 2020 Porsche 718 Spyder. It produces 414 horsepower and 309 pound-feet of torque.

The engine works exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission in the 718 Spyder. Porsche says the drivetrain gets the drop-top to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds.

The drivetrain also enables the 718 Spyder to hit a top speed of 187 mph and cover the quarter-mile in 12.4 seconds.

To improve handling, suspension parts such as the shock absorbers, control arms, ball joints and subframes were taken directly from the 911 GT3.

Compared to the standard Boxster, the Spyder features a ride height more than an inch closer to the ground for a lower center of gravity.

A specific front fascia with bigger air dams, center air outlet and special bypasses on the side of the fascia help improved aerodynamics.
