2020 BMW 228i Gran Coupe will surprise you

The 2020 228i xDrive Gran Coupe is BMW's new gateway sedan model.

Power comes from a 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 making 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The latter is available between 1,450 and 4,500 rpm. 

An eight-speed automatic transmission routes power to all four wheels. BMW says the 228i xDrive Gran Coupe will hit 60 mph in 6 seconds.

According to the EPA, the 2020 BMW 228i xDrive Gran Coupe returns an estimated 23 miles per gallon in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.

When equipped with an optional M Sport package, the 228i Gran Coupe's handling improves, thanks to upgraded springs, dampers, front antiroll bar and 18-inch wheels.

The two-mode adaptive dampers also boast stiffer tuning with the M Sport package.

For a sportier look, the M Sport package adds a more aggressive front bumper, side sills, rear spoiler and rear diffuser.

For infotainment, the 228i Gran Coupe is available with the iDrive 7 system with a 10.25-inch center touchscreen, navigation, Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay.

For safety, all 2 Series Gran Coupes come standard with forward collision warning with automatic braking, land-departure warning with lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring and auto high beams.

The 2020 BMW 228i xDrive Gran Coupe starts at $37,500, not including $995 for destination.
