2018 Audi Q5: A lighter, livelier and better-looking crossover
An all-new Audi Q5 crossover debuts for the 2018 model year that's lighter, more efficient and sharper-looking than its best-selling predecessor.
Audi's all-new Q5 crossover SUV will arrive in US dealers in the spring of 2017 as a 2018 model.
A 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine powers the Q5 producing 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque on 17.4 pounds of boost.
While the previous model used an eight-speed automatic transmission, the new Q5 swaps in a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox with excellent shift speeds and a responsive manual shift function.
The Q5's Quattro all-wheel-drive system can decouple the rear axle when not needed to help improve efficiency. When extra grip is needed, the system automatically reengages the rear axle on the fly.
While adaptive dampers and air suspension are available in other markets, US-bound Q5s will only offer the adaptive dampers with steel coil springs.
All Q5 infotainment systems will come standard with Apple CarPlay and Andriod Auto capabilities.
Compared to the old car, the new Q5 can have a curb weight that's up to 198 pounds lighter depending on trim level.
Like the TT, A4 and Q7, the Q5 is available with Audi's Virtual Cockpit that uses a high-resolution 12.3-inch screen to replace the traditional gauge cluster.
Adaptive cruise control, active lane assist, rear cross traffic alert, automatic emergency braking and an exit warning system are among the safety technologies available in the new Q5.
With the rear seats folded down, the new Q5 offers 54.7 cubic feet of cargo space.
