Hot on the heels of the 2015 Subaru WRX's unveil at the 2013 LA auto show, Subaru recently announced that it would be bringing the hotter WRX STI variant to Detroit next week.
Leaking to the interwebs today are a batch of seemingly official announcement photos of the upcoming 2015 STI sedan.
Like the current STI, the 2015 model will feature a tall wing spoiler that adds a healthy dose of aggression to the WRX's rather drab rear end. I'm still nursing my disappointment at the lack of a five-door variant.
Like the WRX, the STI features a hood scoop and flared fenders.
Presumably the STI's suspension had been upgraded to give the top performer a handling edge. It's nice to see the WRX chassis in the familiar WRC blue, rather than the red that it debuted in.
The power and power-plant have presumably upgraded as well. Where the WRX features a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, the STI may feature as large as a 2.5-liter mill with over 300 horsepower.
All-wheel drive is a given, but there's no word if the WRX's CVT will make an appearance.
The upgrades to the body are subtle, but we're hoping for substantial improvements over the Impreza WRX's already impressive performance.
More details will be announced at the 2014 Detroit auto show next week. See you there.
