2015 Chevrolet Colorado pickup
LOS ANGELES -- Chevrolet debuted the 2015 Colorado mid-sized pickup at the 2013 LA Auto Show this week. The new model is set to arrive at dealerships in the fall of next year.
New front end
We expected the Colorado to wear some version of the highly rectangular facia that Chevy's larger Silverado trucks have, but were surprised to see heavy influences from the automaker's sedan models. Park it next to a Malibu or Impala, and the styling DNA would be even more apparent.
Engine options
At launch, Chevrolet will offer the Colorado with a choice of two engines. The 2.5-liter gasoline 4-banger outputs 193 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, while a larger 3.6-liter V-6 bumps output to 302 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque.
Turbodiesel coming soon
After launch, the Colorado will gain a third engine option: a 2.8-liter Duramax 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine.
In the cabin
Though Chevy is claiming that the Silverado's cabin will be the quietest in class, it doesn't look like anything to write home about. Like a truck should, interior appears to be functional and simple. However, the pickup will be available with Chevrolet's newest OnStar and MyLink infotainment.
Safety tech
The pickup will also be available with safety features, including Lane Departure Warning and Forward Collision Alert.
Truck stuff
Chevrolet is claiming best in class towing, payload, and fuel economy for the new Colorado. When properly equipped, it should be able to trailer more than 6,700 pounds.
Z71 trim level
This off-road-inspired Z71 features a number of performance and styling upgrades, including unique 17-inch aluminum wheels.
Standard CornerStep
Chevrolet's CornerStep rear bumper, which debuted on the 2014 Silverado, is standard on the Colorado as well.
Lifestyle accessories
For drivers who want to use their truck to haul sporting equipment and more, the automaker is offering a range of cargo accessories.
Thule bike rack
This dual bike rack integrates into the cargo bed, leaving plenty of room for cargo beneath.
2015 Chevrolet Colorado Z71
The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado will be available in WT, LT and Z71 trims are available, all in either 2WD or 4WD.
