The 2012 Mercedes S350 BlueTec will make its North American debut at the 2011 Detroit auto show.
The S350 will use the same 3-liter turbocharged V6 that's in Mercedes' other clean diesels.
Technical specs for the 3-liter V6 turbocharged diesel in the S350 haven't been released, but that same engine in the ML350 produces 210-hp and 400 ft-lbs. torque.
The S350 is Mercedes fifth clean diesel vehicle in the U.S. It follows the E350 and three diesel SUVs.
Pricing hasn't been released for the S350, but clean diesels usually carry a $1500 premium over their conventional gas counterpart. However, no tax incentives remain in 2011 for alternative fuel vehicles.
The Mercedes BlueTec system uses AdBlue, a urea-based liquid that, when injected into the exhaust stream, converts 80 percent of the nitrogen oxide into ammonia.
