The 2012 M-Class has the characteristic C-pillar, similar to early generations of the M-Class. However the slope of the roofline offers a sportier, updated look.
To keep the weight of the M-Class, the hood and fenders are made out of light, and yet very strong, aluminum alloys, while the cross member for the instrument panel is made of magnesium.
The M-Class SUV features the tightest turning circle in its segment, with a 180-degree turn negotiated within a circle diameter of just 38.7 feet. At higher speeds, the power assistance is reduced to improve the SUV's handling.
To achieve a lower wind resistance on the 2012 M-Class, new features include sealing around the radiator section, sealed joints between the hood and the headlamps, front wheel spoilers, and air outlets in the front wheel well liners.
Additional air flow optimization comes from redesigned exterior mirror housings, an optimized roof spoiler, underfloor and engine compartment paneling, and aerodynamically optimized light-alloy wheels.
As part of the safety enhancements on the 2012 M-Class, the SUV's lighting package comes with Night View Assist Plus with pedestrian detection, and Lane Keeping Assist and Blind Spot Assist, both with active and passive features.
The 2012 M-Class features two-part taillights with LED fiber-optic technology.
The interior of the 2012 M-Class. M-Class comes standard with a new audio head unit, a 7-inch color display, Bluetooth audio streaming and telephony, phonebook download,
a six-disc CD/DVD/MP3/AM/FM weather band radio, HD Radio, album cover art, an auxiliary input, and USB port.
Interior safety features include: two-stage adaptive airbags for the driver and front passenger, a drivers' side kneebag and dual front sidebags. Passengers in the rear are protected by sidebags and windowbags. There are also three-point seat belts on all five seats.
The new lowered roof of the 2012 M-Class features a large spoiler and chrome rails.
