2010 Mustang Teaser
With Dodge and Chevrolet's entrants into the modern pony car wars revealed, Ford's almost four year old Mustang is starting to look a bit dated and a bit short on power. But that could all change with the unveiling of the 2010 Mustang update. Ford has been leaking teaser shots all over the internet leading up to the unveiling at the 2008 LA Auto Show. Let's have a look and see what changes we can discern.
2010 Ford Mustang (rear)
The Mustang shown here is a GT model and sports what appears to be a new lip spoiler. Also, we see that the tail lamps have been smoothed over, still retaining the Mustang's three-segment layout, but with clear segments for separations instead of the previous black lines. We can also see that the rear end has had many of its hard edges rounded-out and will probably be less chunky and blocky than the outgoing model.
2010 Ford Mustang (fender)
There's not much different to see in this shot, but what we can tell is that the front fender flares are better blended into the rest of the body, as opposed to the very creased look of the 2009 and older models.
2010 Ford Mustang (front end)
Here we can see that the Mustang's headlamps are now multi-element units, with integrated turn signals, as opposed to the horizontal bumper-mounted turn signal of the current Mustang.
It appears that the Mustang's doe-eyed stare will remain intact, but this update is just a refresh, so we probably won't see many drastic changes to the Mustang formula.
2010 Ford Mustang (convertible)
The convertible Mustang will survive the transition (for now), which gives Ford one advantage against Dodge (who have no plans for a convertible Challenger) and Chevy (who just announced that its Camaro convertible has been shelved).
2010 Ford Mustang (wheel)
The new wheels retain the five-spoke configuration. If the leaks are correct, these 18-inch aluminum wheels will be the standard for the Ford Mustang GT.
2010 Ford Mustang (interior)
The interior looks very similar to the current Mustang's. The circular center vents have been replaced by rectangular units for a more integrated look. The dash and center console look smoothed out for a much cleaner look than the current model.
2010 Ford Mustang (dash)
Gauge faces are still recessed and circular, but lose the raised bezel, blending into the smooth unified dashboard.
2010 Ford Mustang (seats)
We're not big fans of the Mustang's seats, but they're adequate. It looks like we'll be getting more of the same in the next generation.
2010 Ford Mustang (steering wheel)
Here we can see that the steering wheel buttons layout has been changed from the previous generation, which had a lot of wasted space and tiny buttons. In the background, we see new white gauge faces with what looks like the same retro typeface of the current Mustang.
2010 Ford Mustang Teaser
We don't expect to see a drastic change in the Mustang formula, but it looks like we'll see a general smoothing over and cleaning up of the details. We would like to see more power, better fuel economy, or both. While we're speculating, we'd also like to see a small V-6 with direct-injection and twin-turbos. Hey, we can dream can't we?
