Samsung and Oculus have been partnering on mobile VR for years. The Galaxy Note 8 works with Gear VR, too -- but with a new headset.
It looks the same.
It feels the same.
It makes people look the same when they wear it.
The difference is that the USB-C connector and design are slightly bigger to fit the slightly larger Note 8.
Like the Gear VR that debuted earlier this year, it comes with a wireless controller that's helpful for pointing and clicking.
Gear VR's excellent library of apps and games remains the same.
At $130, the Gear VR isn't super-cheap.
The newest Gear VR is backward-compatible to the Galaxy Note 5 and older Galaxy phones, including the S6 and S7.

Samsung's newest Galaxy phones also work with Google's Daydream View, offering a mobile VR alternative.
I still prefer Gear VR, but it's annoying that the Note 8 needs a new headset yet again.
