Material challenges Flipboard for magazine supremacy (pictures)
Material is here, and like Flipboard it uses social data to predict your news-reading preferences. Here's a closer look.
Welcome to Material
Setting up the Material app is as simple as logging in to your Facebook or Twitter account.
Adjust your interests
The sliding menu on the side shows all of your interests. From here, you can also search for new interests to add or delete any that you no longer want.
Stories broken into categories
Within your feed, you can swipe up or down to see thumbnails for stories within a single category.
Jumping around
Swipe left or right to move between the different categories.
Trimmed-down articles
Tap to read a story, and you'll get a bare-bones version with text and photos. From here, you can scroll up or down to go between stories or simply hit one of the navigation keys.
See the full version, too
To jump to the Web version of an article (within the Material app), just hit the double-arrow button up top.
