Find the right appliance for tight kitchen spaces (pictures)

Whether you’re a condo dweller, tiny-home enthusiast or millennial renter, you don’t have to sacrifice style and high-end features just because you’re tight on space. Big-name brands have slimmed down refrigerators, dishwashers and ovens to address the needs of folks without square footage to spare. The Summit TNM11027BFRWY is only 20 inches wide, so this slide-in gas range should fit seamlessly into a tight kitchen.  The stainless steel and black finishes are also a step above the white finishes that are the norm in small apartment living. Inside the oven, there's only 2.5 cubic feet of space, and each of the four sealed burners only reach 9,000 BTUs, so this beauty doesn't pack much of a culinary punch.

The Premier Pro Series P20S3102P is a freestanding 20-inch gas range with some nice features like stainless steel doors and cast-iron grates. The P20S3102P has a 2.42 cubic-foot oven, and the four sealed burners only provide 9,100 BTUs each, tiny features for such a hefty price tag of more than $1,000.

Have your heart set on convection baking, but don't have the space for a full-sized convection oven? Try the Cuisinart CSO-300 Combo Steam+Convection Oven. This souped-up version of a traditional countertop toaster oven comes with multiple steam cooking settings along with a convection cooking option.

When we reviewed this $299 model, we recommended that "creative home chefs looking for a powerful, versatile alternative to their full-size oven should give the CSO-300 first consideration, but those just looking for something to heat up Pop-Tarts and Red Barons should stick with something less expensive."

When kitchen space is a problem, a dishwasher might be the first appliance to get the axe. But an 18-inch model like the Frigidaire FFBD1821MS could work in a small kitchen. This model, which costs $799,  also features attractive stainless steel on the inside and out, and there's a gentle wash cycle for your more delicate dishes.

The Danby DDW1899BLS-1 dishwasher has just about everything you need packed into 18 inches. This model has a stainless steel interior and exterior, and seven wash cycles. Plus, the $359 price matches this dishwasher's size.

Customization is still an option in small kitchens. The 18-inch wide Bosch SPV5ES53UC is panel-ready, so you can add a finish to match the rest of your kitchen. The Bosch is packed with neat features, such as a red light that projects on the floor while the dishwasher runs (Bosch boasts that it's the quietest dishwasher in its class, hence the need for an indicator). All these cool additions come at a cost ($999, to be specific), which puts this Bosch at the high end of the small-dishwasher category.

Refrigerators have taken on a more slender profile to match the needs of apartments and condos. The narrow Summit FFBF171SS boasts 11.47 cubic feet of storage space, even though this refrigerator is only 24 inches wide. This model, which can cost as much as $1,400, features a bottom freezer and reversible stainless steel doors.

The Bosch B10CB80NVS is part of the manufacturer's 800 series of slim appliances. This model is 24 inches wide and uses tempered glass on top of stainless steel to provide a sleek look along with a durable design. But you only get 10 cubic feet of space for $2,499.
