The 2019 Ford Escape is stylish and spacious
The current Ford Escape has been around a while, but remains a strong contender in the compact SUV class.
The current, third-generation Ford Escape arrived in 2012 and got updated for 2017.
Not much is new for the 2019 model year.
The Escape is offered with three engines, the most powerful of which is a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder with 245 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque.
The Escape is most efficient with its 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, returning 23/30 city/highway mpg.
All Escapes are equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission that can send power to the front wheels or all four wheels when equipped with all-wheel drive.
There's enough room inside for up to five occupants.
An 8-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is optional, otherwise you're left with a 4.2-inch screen sans smartphone mirroring.
With the rear seats folded, the Escape can swallow up to 68 cubic feet of cargo.
Base prices begin at $24,105 and top out at $32,620 plus $995 for destination.
