2019 BMW M850i Convertible: A complete GT drop-top
The 2019 BMW M850i Convertible can be a comfortable cruiser or a backroads burner.
The 2019 BMW M850i xDrive Convertible is the second model to join the new 8 Series family following the coupe that launched late last year.
Like the coupe, the convertible is also powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 making 523 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque.
The engine works with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Together they get the 8 Series convertible to 60 miles per hour in 3.8 seconds.
The M850i Convertible returns an EPA estimated 17 miles per gallon in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.
With a curb weight of 4,736 pounds, the 8 Series Convertible is 258 pounds heavier than the fixed roof model.
The power soft-top can open and close in 15 seconds and operate at speeds up to 30 mph.
To be worthy of the M badge, the M850i comes standard with an adaptive suspension, rear-wheel steering and a torque vectoring rear differential.
The drop-top rides on staggered 20-inch wheels wrapped with Bridgestone Potenza S007 tires.
Handling infotainment is BMW's latest iDrive 7 software housed in a 10.25-inch touchscreen to run navigation, a 12-speaker Haman Kardon audio setup and Wi-Fi hotspot.
The 2019 BMW M850i xDrive Convertible starts at $121,400, not including $995 for destination.
