Homer for the holidays: Roku adds FXNow

The FXNow app is available now on Roku, complete with all 26 seasons of "The Simpsons."

"You know, Fox turned into a hard-core sex channel so gradually, I didn't even notice."

Marge Simpson's observation isn't true quite yet, but today FXNow has turned into a streaming channel on Roku.

Roku owners who cried "D'oh!" when the app appeared first on Apple TV (gaining Bart, Lisa and family a month or so later) can now channel Nelson's "Ha, Ha!" at Fire TV and Chromecast owners who don't yet have access to the app on their Sornys, Panaphonics or Magnetboxes.

In addition to all 26 seasons of "The Simpsons," FXNow offers shows from FX, FXX and FXM, including "Sons of Anarchy," "American Horror Story" and "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia." New episodes of original series are available the next day after they air.

Shows from the app have also been integrated into Roku's class-leading cross-platform search function, so users can easily locate them among the numerous other streaming services.

Currently the app is available in the US only, and as with many apps it requires an active cable or DirecTV subscription. Not every provider allows access; Comcast does, for example, but Verizon Fios does not. See Roku's blog post for the full list of providers.
