Use Alexa and an app to cook with GE's Scan-to-Cook microwave

The GE Smart Countertop Microwave Oven with Scan-to-Cook Technology lets you control your countertop cooker with your voice or with an app. You can buy the multi-talented microwave now for $140. 

The Alexa skill works great. You can pause or stop the microwave, add time to your current countdown, start cooking for a specified amount of time or even activate one of the microwave's presets such as "beverage" with a voice command.

Using the app, you can scan prepackaged foods to send the directions to your microwave. 

You'll see the directions on your phone and can send the first step to your machine. If you need to stir your food mid-cook, the app will send subsequent cooking times to the machine as soon as you open the door. 

Underneath the smarts, GE's microwave is a simple and competent machine with 900 watts of cooking power and 0.9 cubic feet of usable space. 

Use the presets to get cooking quickly. No phone required. 

The microwave fared well on our boiling water test, so it uses its power effectively.
