The other Galaxy -- Samsung Group beyond electronics (pictures)

Samsung is best known for its electronics, but the company's parent, Samsung Group, has many other operations as well. That includes fashion. The company operates several stores around Korea, including this one in Seoul.

One of Samsung Group's fashion brand lines is called Galaxy. It features high-end men's suits and more casual male clothing, as pictured here. The Galaxy fashion line predated Samsung's popular Galaxy Android devices.

Another fashion line owned by Samsung Group's Cheil Industries company is Bean Pole. This brand is better known outside of Asia than Samsung's Galaxy line. Bean Pole is sort of like a J Crew type of store, with preppy polo shirts and golf wear. Actress Gwyneth Paltrow has served as a spokeswoman for the brand.

Samsung Group is so ubiquitous in Korea that buildings with its logo can be seen everywhere in Seoul. Few of those buildings are actually part of Samsung Electronics.

Samsung Group operates a large construction business. Along with building new structures in Seoul, such as the photo here, Samsung built the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and other notable structures.

Samsung Group operates apartment buildings. It's common to see high rises with the name "Samsung" on them when driving around Seoul, South Korea.

Samsung Group operates financial services and insurance businesses, including life insurance and marine and fire insurance. This Samsung Life Insurance building is located across the street from Samsung Electronics' Seoul offices.

Among Samsung Group's many holdings is a high-end hotel in Seoul, called the Shilla. The hotel recently underwent a renovation to update the interior, and a large Korean-style gate marks the entrance to the Shilla property.

Samsung gadgets aren't the only things you can find at airports. The company also operates Shilla duty free shops.

Cheil Worldwide, whose Seoul office is pictured here, is one of Samsung Group's many companies. It does marketing and advertising and often works with Samsung Electronics.
