The Hiku's biggest competitor: Pen and paper (pictures)
This second-generation shopping assistant has sharpened its performance and design.
The new Hiku offers assistance in shopping by scanning your groceries and helping you order more when you run low.
Setting up the Hiku is simple and quick. Just sync it to your Wi-Fi and you can start scanning within minutes.
The magnet on the back of the body lets you attach it to a fridge for easy access.
The button on the front of the body activates a scanner like you might find at a supermarket. That scanner logs your groceries on a list organized by aisle.
The scanning was sometimes surprisingly precise, despite hiccups other times.
Although you can leave the Hiku on your fridge, it's easiest to take it off to scan items quickly and stick it back when you're done.
The scanner window blinks different colors to communicate with users. Though no manual is included, the color selections are intuitive.
The new "Get it now" feature lets you purchase groceries online with third-party partners Walmart and Peapod. Walmart offers grocery pickup, whereas Peapod delivers for a small fee.
