LAS VEGAS -- Though CES always lives up to its promise of delivering a huge showcase of new tech, many of the products on display never make it off the show floor and into retail stores. We call these products "vaporware," since after the masses leave Las Vegas, they tend to vaporize into the air like a puddle on a hot summer day. Fortunately, there is a selection of gadgets from the show that really will go on sale. Here's a few that we found this week.
Samsung Galaxy NotePro
Samsung's Galaxy NotePro runs on Android 4.4, but it has a glossy new user interface called Magazine UX. It should go on sale in the first quarter of this year.
Sony 4K Ultra Short Throw Projector
Sony is pledging that it will sell the 4K Ultra Short Throw Projector by the summer of this year. That's promising, but the thing will cost you "approximately $30,000 to $40,000."
Philips Screeneo HDP1590
The Philips Screeneo HDP1590 projects a 720p image, but it's set to ship sooner than Sony's model, and it's much cheaper ($1,799).
Asus PadFone X
An update to the best phone-to-tablet transformer series we've seen is landing exclusively at AT&T in the second quarter of 2014. That makes the Asus PadFone X the first PadFone to come to a US carrier.
Samsung 85U9B bendable TV
Press a button on the remote control of the Samsung 85U9B and small servos behind the screen spring into action, bending the edges out into that soon-to-be-familiar curved shape. Though it looks like classic vaporware, it is set to go on sale this year. We're as surprised as you are.
iRobot Scooba 450
The $599 iRobot Scooba 450 hard-surface-washing robot claims to be able to get rid of up to 99.3 percent of the gunky build-up on your hard flooring surfaces -- that includes potentially harmful bacteria like E. coli and S. aureus. It's available now.
Samsung Galaxy TabPro
Similar to the Galaxy NotePro, the Galaxy TabPro will arrive by March of this year. It comes in three sizes -- 12.2-inch, 10.1-inch, and 8.4-inch -- and in Wi-Fi, LTE, and 3G versions.
Crock-Pot WeMo Smart Slow Cooker
With the Crock-Pot WeMo Smart Slow Cooker, you can control and monitor cooking times and temperatures via your smart phone and get reminders in return. Look for it this spring.
LaCie Sphere
The sleek (and dare we say sexy?) LaCie Sphere is a shiny 1TB portable drive that comes with a spherical chassis handcrafted from silver-plated steel. It should be available in the first quarter of 2014 for $450.
Sony Xperia Z1 S
Sony's attractive, powerful, and waterproof Xperia Z1 S Android smartphone comes to T-Mobile this month.
Audi Smart Display
Audi Smart Display integrates a Google's Android tablet with Audi's in-vehicle infotainment system. Audi says it will be out as soon as possible.
Tablo over-the-air DVR
The Tablo works a lot like Simple.TV, recording free over-the-air TV to an external hard drive, then streaming those shows over your home network to other devices, like an iPad or a Roku box. The two-tuner model will hit stores in February with the four-tuner following by July.
Acer Iconia A1-830
Available in the first quarter of 2014 for $149, the Acer Iconia A1-830 has an iPad-like 4:3 aspect ratio but an unimpressive 1,024x768 resolution.
Samsung's Chef Collection dishwasher
Instead of a revolving circle of jets, the Samsung DW80H9970 uses a linear wall of water which sweeps back and forth during the wash cycle. It could be out as early as this Monday.
Asus Transformer Book Duet TD300
The 13.3-inch Transformer Book Duet TD300 packs a performance punch, with a quad-core Intel i7 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 128GB of internal storage. It should land in stores in the second quarter of this year.
D-Link Wi-Fi AC750 Portable Router and Charger
The DIR-510L is a truly dual-band router with a total bandwidth of 750Mbps and its 4,000mAh battery has more than enough juice to refill an iPhone 5. You can pick it up by the end of this month.
Acer Iconia B1-720
The Acer Iconia B1-720 tablet ships with Android Jelly Bean 4.2.1 and houses a 1.3GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage. According to Acer, the Iconia B1-720 will be available in stores in mid-January.
