Sphero's Force Band is a whole new way to control BB-8

Sphero's new remote-controlled BB-8 comes with a Bluetooth wristband that allows you to control the robot with gestures.

The wristband is called the Force Band, and it's had an image overhaul since its big reveal at CES 2016.

The clasp is magnetic, you just need to pop it in place. It holds quite securely.

The button on top of the unit allows you to turn it on, sync it with the app and cycle through modes.

It fits on either wrist, but the USB charging port always needs to be facing towards your body. This is the wrong way to wear it.

The Force Band's profile on your wrist is similar to that of a slightly chunky watch.

A Velcro tab allows you to adjust it to pretty much any wrist size.

BB-8 is looking a bit more scuffed than her earlier incarnation.

Like last year's BB-8, the new version comes with a cordless charging unit for the robot.

BB-8 has seen some bad times.

The Force Band's scuffed aesthetic mirrors BB-8's battle-scarred new look.

BB-8's head is detachable.

Magnets hold the head on BB-8's body, and tiny wheels allow it to move as the robot rolls around.

The special edition BB-8 comes in a stylish collectors' tin.

Inside you'll find BB-8, the charging pad and two USB-to-micro-USB cables for the charging pad and the Force Band.

BB-8 makes little emote sounds and movements as she rolls around.

To control BB-8, you simply move your arm with the Force Band in the direction you wish the robot to go.

The Force Band can also be sold separately, and works with the original Sphero BB-8.

Adjusting the strap can be a bit fiddly. Although the clasp is secure, it can pop open quite easily if you're tugging at the strap.

This is the correct way to wear the Force Band, with the micro-USB port towards your arm.

The new app is compatible with both BB-8s, and takes you through a brief training tutorial.

You'll feel like a legit Force user and everything!

If you continue to wear the Force Band throughout the day, it will unlock collectibles within the app.

These collectibles include characters and technology from the Star Wars universe...

... Including items that make sounds from the Force Band as you move your arm, such as a TIE fighter.

Or even a lightsaber. Grab a cardboard tube, and you'll be a Sith or Jedi before you know it.

These collectibles are displayed in a special menu.
