Sony VG900 is ready for accessories

With a new accessory shoe, XLR adapter, and A-mount adapter, this camcorder is as much about what you put on it as what's inside.

Lori Grunin
I've been reviewing hardware and software, devising testing methodology and handed out buying advice for what seems like forever; I'm currently absorbed by computers and gaming hardware, but previously spent many years concentrating on cameras. I've also volunteered with a cat rescue for over 15 years doing adoptions, designing marketing materials, managing volunteers and, of course, photographing cats.

Full-frame sensor, APS-C mount

Because it uses fundamentally the same body as the rest of the VG series, the VG900 has the same physical E-mount.

E-to-A-mount adapter

In order to use A-mount lenses that can take advantage of the entire sensor, you have to use the bundled LA-EA3 adapter.

Zoom switch

The top zoom switch can be used in conjunction with the new 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 or 16-50mm f3.5-5.6 E-mount power zoom lenses.

The usual suspects.

Same as its siblings

As with its sibling models, the VG900 has some basic direct-access control under the LCD and is limited to a single SDXC card slot.

More direct-access controls

This is one of the aspects in which the VG900 differs from the lower-end VG models -- a more shooter-friendly location and operation for the manual exposure controls.

Built-in microphone

The VG900 uses the same Quad-Capsule Spatial Array microphone as the rest of the VG series.
