SkyBell's Video Doorbell chimes in (pictures)
The $199 SkyBell Video Doorbell (version 2.0) takes on BOT Home Automation's Ring as the latest Wi-Fi buzzer to beat.
SkyBell 2.0 is a Wi-Fi-enabled video doorbell that sends you a push alert and a link to a live feed when someone buzzes you or simply triggers the built-in motion sensor.
SkyBell 2.0 costs $199 and was named as one of Apple's HomeKit-compatible brands.
It comes with a few different baseplates to fit unique configuration needs.
SkyBell must be hardwired to work correctly.
That ensures a steady supply of power, but does take a bit more effort up front.
If you already have a wired doorbell and are familiar with basic electrical work, the installation should be pretty straightforward.
It takes just two wires to install SkyBell.
Then, you'll be ready to chat with guests without opening the door -- or even being home at all.
SkyBell 2.0 installed.
SkyBell did make a tweak to its 2.0 model shortly after it was released.
The first production 2.0 models has a motion sensor below the camera.
However, later batches position the motion sensor above the camera. We tested both.
