Seagate Wireless Plus offers improvements over predecessor (pictures)

Seagate announced at CES 2013 a new wireless portable storage expander/media server that comes with lots of improvements compared with its predecessor, the Seagate Satellite.

LAS VEGAS--The new Seagate Wireless Plus is essentially a portable drive with a built-in battery life and built-in Wireless-N access point.

Out of the box, the device comes included with a USB 3.0 adapter, which also charges its battery when plugged into a computer, and a separate power adapter for use without a computer.

Here's the Wireless Plus with its USB 3.0 adapter snapped in. When connected to a computer with an included USB 3.0 cable, it works just like any other portable drive.

The portable device now comes with 1TB of storage space, twice the amount of its predecessor.

The larger storage space and the longer battery life doesn't affect the Wireless Plus' physical size much; it's still very compact.

The Wireless Plus comes with two indicator lights for its power and Wi-Fi network statuses.

When not used with the USB 3.0 adapter, the Wireless Plus gets even more compact. You can cover its port with an included lid.
