HP Mini 2140

Here's our weekly roundup of the new products CNET reviewers liked best.

HP Mini 2140

Editors' rating: 4

The good: Solid metal construction; full ExpressCard/54 slot; big keyboard.

The bad: Odd resolution loses a few pixels; no mobile-broadband options (yet); awkward mouse button placement.

The bottom line: HP offers a premium version of its plastic Mini 1000 while keeping the price down, making the Mini 2140 the Netbook to beat.

Asus EAHD4870X2

Asus EAHD4870X2

Editors' rating: 3.5

The good: Competitive performance at a lower cost than the competition; supports DirectX 10.1; easy home theater installation.

The bad: Faster 3D performance available for just a little more cash; power hog.

The bottom line: Asus's EAHD4870X2 falls just short of the speed and relative value offered by Nvidia's competing high-end 3D card. Unless you have certain very specific needs, you'll get better performance and better power efficiency with Nvidia.

Cellphone-Mate CM2000-WL 45dB

Cellphone-Mate CM2000-WL 45dB

Editors' rating: 3.5

The good: The Cellphone-Mate CW2000-WL delivers a stronger signal to your cell phone.

The bad: The Cellphone-Mate CW2000-WL comes with a load of restrictions regarding placement of its various parts. It won't support Nextel's iDEN network and voice quality improved only marginally.

The bottom line: Provided you can afford it and you can get through the set-up process, the Cellphone-Mate CW2000-WL should makes a positive difference in your overall call quality.

Clickfree Portable Backup Drive (250GB)

Clickfree Portable Backup Drive (250GB)

Editors' rating: 3.5

The good: No-hassle automatic backup; record-breaking transfer speeds; inexpensive; includes dual-prong USB cable.

The bad: No FireWire; does not support Windows 98/ME; short one-year warranty.

The bottom line: Small business and personal users with large amounts of data will appreciate the Clickfree's painless backup drive that practically automates all the work through the embedded software. People running older Windows operating systems are out of luck, but the lightning-fast transfer speeds and excellent performance scores secure the Clickfree a solid recommendation for up-to-date Windows and Mac users.

Cowon S9 (4GB)

Cowon S9 (4GB)

Editors' rating: 3.5

The good: Cowon's S9 portable media player offers a gorgeous OLED touch-screen display, long battery life, and features such as Bluetooth audio, voice recording, FM radio, Flash media support, audio and video playback, a photo viewer, and a text reader.

The bad: The Cowon S9's user interface isn't quite as polished as the competition, the plastic construction feels flimsy, and it lacks Wi-Fi, memory expansion, and a standard USB port.

The bottom line: The Cowon S9 is a sexy-looking gadget with exceptional audio and video quality, but its construction quality and user interface pale in comparison to the competition.

Denon AVR-1909

Editors' rating: 3.5

The good: Three HDMI inputs; onboard Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding; Sirius and XM-ready; upconverts analog signals to 1080p over HDMI output; automatic speaker calibration; decent video quality on upconverted video signals.

The bad: Terrible remote; difficult setup; competition offers more HDMI inputs for less money; no graphical user interface.

The bottom line: The Denon AVR-1909 sounds great and is fully featured, but isn't the easiest receiver to set up and use.

2009 Hyundai Genesis 4.6

2009 Hyundai Genesis 4.6

Editors' rating: 3.5

The good: The Lexicon stereo in the 2009 Hyundai Genesis 4.6 produces superb sound, ranking among the best. The iPod interface works well, and the navigation system includes traffic information. The engine and transmission work smoothly.

The bad: The suspension doesn't handle rough roads well. In the cabin, the phone system won't copy over address books, and the navigation system doesn't dynamically route around bad traffic.

The bottom line: The 2009 Hyundai Genesis 4.6 is an excellent car for cruising around and listening to music, but it doesn't offer all the latest cabin tech, and some of its veneer of luxury wears thin when exposed to close scrutiny.

8 of 11 iVoice

iVoice Baby-ai (Black)

iVoice Baby-ai (Black)

Editors' rating: 3.5

The good: The iVoice Baby-ai is a simple and easy-to-use headset with great fit and descent sound quality. It has multipoint technology, automatic volume adjustment, and it announces caller ID information. Also, it comes with several additional earbud covers, and it's quite affordable.

The bad: The iVoice Baby-ai has rather small volume keys and the controls felt a bit crowded. We also thought there was a bit more static in the audio than we'd like at times.

The bottom line: Despite its quirky controls and occasional dips in audio quality, the iVoice Baby-ai is a pretty excellent headset for its price.

Nokia N79 (unlocked)

Nokia N79 (unlocked)

Editors' rating: 3.5

The good: The Nokia N79 offers a slim and attractive design and packs in a load of multimedia features, including a 5-megapixel camera that takes excellent photos. The Symbian smartphone also features integrated Wi-Fi, U.S. 3G support, Bluetooth, and GPS.

The bad: The N79's navigation controls and dialpad are a little cramped, and call quality was a bit mixed.

The bottom line: The Nokia N79 might not be the star of the N series devices, but it still shines as a great multimedia smartphone with plenty of features and fast performance.

Sony Alpha DSLR-A900 (body only)

Sony Alpha DSLR-A900 (body only)

Editors' rating: 3.5

The good: High resolution; in-body image stabilization; nice viewfinder; great accessory system.

The bad: Can't lock focus-point selector; Intelligent Preview button much too easy to hit accidentally; some subpar aspects of performance; no Live View; loud mirror.

The bottom line: A good first try at a pro-level camera, the Sony Alpha DSLR-A900 has the high resolution but unfortunately lacks some of the performance and usability you expect from a model in its price range.

Vizio VO32LF

Vizio VO32LF

Editors' rating: 3.5

The good: Accurate grayscale and primary color; plentiful picture controls; generous connectivity suite with three HDMI and one PC input.

The bad: Below-average uniformity and off-angle viewing; ho-hum styling.

The bottom line: The accurate color and deep feature set of Vizio's 1080p VO32LF make it one of the better small-screen LCDs.
