The bulbous projection of the 7x zoom lens sits awkwardly on the NV7's extremely slim body, giving it an odd, though not completely unattractive, silhouette. No folding lens mechanism here.

The ingenious interface puts options in the crosshairs, so no shooting setting is more than two button-presses away. The menu options are persistent, so to choose the metering method, you'd simply press the metering option on the horizontal row of buttons and the method from the vertical row. It's actually quite a fast, efficient system, and infinitely better than a touch screen.

In addition to a full set of semimanual shooting options, the NV7 has dedicated modes for movie playback and color effects.

The ramp icon adds a second set of choices for less frequently used options. The dedicated OPS button cycles you through the different Optical Picture Stabilization options: off, at focus, and at capture.
