Photos: RIM BlackBerry 8800
Available through Cingular, the RIM BlackBerry 8800 brings an updated look to the company's full QWERTY devices and crams in plenty of features for mobile professionals. Take a look.
The RIM BlackBerry 8800 takes some style points from its slimmer sibling, the BlackBerry Pearl, and sports a sleek black casing and a trackball navigator.
In addition to the sexier design, the BlackBerry 8800 is thinner (4.5x2.6x0.5 inches; 4.7 ounces) than previous full QWERTY BlackBerrys, such as the BlackBerry 8700g.
On top of the unit, you'll find the power on/off and mute buttons.
A 2.5mm headset jack, a mini USB port, and a convenenience key, which is programmed to launch Cingular's Push to Talk services, line the left spine of the BlackBerry 8800.
We found the BlackBerry 8800 fairly wide, so clutching it in your hand and holding it up to your ear is a bit awkward and cumbersome.
With the thinner profile, the 8800 will have no problem slipping into a pants pocket or purse. There also is a belt holster included in the box.

For the most part, the BlackBerry 8800 was easy to use one-handed, but we did miss the scroll wheel and escape key found on BlackBerrys in the past.
Like the BlackBerry Pearl, the 8800 has a trackball for easy four-way scrolling. We do wish, however, that it was larger and raised above the phone's surface.
Overall, we found the BlackBerry 8800's QWERTY keyboard fairly easy to use, but the buttons are a bit slippery even with the raised ridges.
There's a microSD card slot for carrying large files such as music and video, but we had a heck of time trying to get the battery cover off. Hopefully, RIM reconsiders the location of the expansion slot next time.
