Photos: iRiver X20

Asia gets all the cool stuff. Case in point: the iRiver X20, a flash MP3 player with tons of features and great sound quality. Luckily, we've already located a retailer in the U.S.

The top edge of the player features an ever-useful hold switch. It would've been nice if iRiver had added some dedicated volume controls there as well.

We always dig on a standard mini USB port. And the inclusion of line-in recording is a rarity these days--how nice of the X20 to pack it in. Other features include a FM tuner and voice recorder.

Sure, it's not super-sleek and sexy, but it sounds great and is easy to use. Don't hide from this player.

This flash player is not the most compact device...in fact, it's a bit of a beast, bigger than some microdrive players. (Remember those?)

The X20 has a teeny scroll ring, reminiscent of the ring sported by the SanDisk Sansa e200 series players. Yet this one is even thinner and has fewer raised bumps to aid your grip. Fortunately, the rest of the user interface is just fab.

iRiver makes up for the X20's bulk with a lovely 2.2-inch screen. Photos look great, and short video clips have ample room to play.

Everyone likes expandable memory--what's not to like? Considering the X20 only goes up to 4GB, the microSD card expansion slot is a good add.

The X20 includes a user-replaceable battery and dual integrated speakers, so you can share music with friends.

The iRiver X20 isn't bad-looking, but it's construction feels a bit cheap--perhaps this is why iRiver kept the product "officially" out of the U.S.?
