By moving the power button to the top and the capture-type dial to the side, using a new Mini accessory shoe, and relocating the Function button and joystick to the LCD bezel, Canon was able to shave quite a few inches off its typical camcorder.
Despite its small size, the HF100 includes a pretty broad feature set, including a microphone and headphone jacks and mini-HDMI and USB ports.
The HF100's dial for switching between photo and video capture and playback modes strikes me as a bit retro--and a bit clunky.
