PCs and tablets flip and twist their way through IFA 2015

BERLIN -- Asus debuted the PC Stick at IFA, ushering in a new category of computers that live inside small plastic cases and look like oversized USB memory sticks. It connects to any screen by HDMI and will run Windows 10 on an Intel Atom processor. It doesn't have a release date yet, but it will cost $129 in the US.

Asus's new GX700 gaming laptop uses Intel's powerful K-series Skylake processors and includes a 4K 17-inch display to make use of Nvidia's latest graphics cards. It currently uses the GeForce 980M, but that could change by the time this is released.

That big thing on the back is an outboard water-cooling unit that attaches to the chassis! So far, water cooling, for keeping overclocked components running cool and error-free, is something only found on high-end desktops.

Asus says the GX700 may appear late in 2015 but hasn't given an exact date or price yet.

The Acer Predator 8 is a gaming tablet rig with an 8-inch FHD display. It can run at 1,920x1,200 resolution and offers haptic feedback using a technology Acer calls TacSense.

Gaming audio is well-handled by the quad-speaker set up on the front. This works on conjunction with a "special DSP algorithm" to produce a virtual surround sound environment.

The Predator 8 GT-810 will be available for $299 exclusively at Newegg for two weeks from November 6. After this, prices will vary depending on the tablet's markets.

Acer also revealed a new "block" based modular PC system called the Revo Build.

Magnetic pins secure the Revo Build's base to the components above it. You can easily add extras to the system without tools or cables.

The Revo Build M1-601 will begin selling in Europe starting in October, with build prices starting at 199 euros.

Lenovo is adding another Windows 10 hybrid to its lineup, and this one starts off with a very familiar look.

The new Miix 700 could easily be mistaken for a Microsoft Surface Tablet from a short distance, and its functions and features are certainly similar. But the Miix 700 adds a few new wrinkles, including an Intel Core i5 CPU

Toshiba is pushing the boundaries of what one expects from a slim Windows 10 hybrid with a 12.5-inch display.

The new Satellite Radius 12 skips the lower resolutions and low-power processors found in many smaller laptops. Instead it offers up a Core i7 CPU, a hinge that folds back 360 degrees to form a tablet, Harman Kardon speakers and up to 512GB of SSD storage.

Toshiba says the Radius 12 will be available in the US and UK in the fourth quarter of 2015, complete with a satin gold finish. But it's offering no price information yet.

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 gaming laptop takes the red-accented design of last year's models and upgrades it with the latest Intel sixth-generation Core i7 processors, as well as newer Nvidia GeForce mobile graphics cards. A handful of AMD processor options are also available.

Both 15-inch and 17-inch models will be available, with Intel's RealSense 3D camera as an option in the 15-inch version. As with previous Lenovo gaming laptops, the graphics cards hit the mainstream rather than the high end. They now feature the Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M.

The Y700 laptop will be available in the US in October, starting at $949. The Y700 and Y900 desktops are coming in November, starting at $999 and $1,599.

The Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 Pro is more than a tablet -- it's also a projector. On its grip-friendly rounded spine, you'll find the pico projector, which can rotate 180 degrees and display an image up to 70 inches large.

Using the built-in kickstand, you can adjust the positioning of the tablet and the angle of the projector to easily play a movie on any wall or ceiling.

The Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 Pro is expected to hit US stores in November with a retail price of $499 (converts to £325 or AU$701).

The 10-inch model of the Yoga Tab 3 is also expected in the US in November for $199 (which converts to about £130 or AU$280). The 8-inch model will hit stores earlier in October for $169 (converts to about £110 or AU$235). International pricing and availability has yet to be confirmed.
