Nintendo New 3DS adds subtle but appreciated upgrades (pictures)

Nintendo's New 3DS isn't all-new by any means, but with an upgraded display and a second analog stick, it's certainly a cool upgrade.

Meet the New 3DS -- very slightly different to the old 3DS.

Available in Japan only, we went all the way to Tokyo to bring you this review.

One of the big changes is the new clip-on covers. We got a lovely wood-grain model with embossed silhouettes. (No, it isn't real wood.)

One of the big new additions: two more shoulder buttons. ZL and ZR join the existing L and R.

The 3D slider is still there on the display, but the dedicated Wi-Fi switch is gone.

Inside, you can see the new analog stick, hiding above the brightly colored main buttons.

The new stick doesn't feel very good, sadly. It's like a TrackPoint on a Lenovo laptop.

Thankfully, Nintendo has released almost 40 different covers -- and we're sure there are plenty more to come.

The bottom cover is a little harder to get off, so we left it on for this photo. (It requires two screws.)

The display is the single biggest improvement, and almost worth the price of admission alone.
