Tucked away inside New York City's 42nd Street Grand Central subway station is a novel sight: a series of computerized maps with interactive touch screen.
New York subway maps go high-tech and touch screen
Posted at certain locations within the 42nd Street Grand Central subway platform, the MTA's new interactive map kiosks offer smart directions to strap-hangers.
Let's get on the go
The New York MTA calls these new kiosks "On The Go Travel Stations."
Regular or fancy commuter trains
The On The Go kiosks offer info for regular subway and fancier Metro North commuter trains.
Head to a popular place
You can navigate directly to a popular point of interest.
A massive touch screen
Riders use their fingers to drag the map around and zoom into places they want to go.
See where you are
The kiosks tell you where you are and help direct you to your destination.
Choose your route
If you don't like the route the kiosk suggests, choose another one.
Stay in the loop
The interactive maps will also display service changes and alerts in case of a delay -- which, of course, never happens, right?
Directions in detail
You can also see a play-by-play of your route and how long it should take.
Ready to go
After consulting the On The Go Travel Station, it's time get moving.
