Grand Theft Auto 5 is only a few months away, and in a bid to whet gamers' appetites -- and eventually ply them away from their cash -- developer Rockstar has released a slew of new screenshots teasing its upcoming title.

Click through the pictures above to ogle the 12 new shots for yourself, and see if you can guess at any particular missions or key moments.

Particularly interesting is the breadth of vehicles on show. While Grand Theft Auto 4 could sometimes feel a little restrictive in its choice of transport, these 12 screens along hint at planes, parachutes, motorbikes and even a scuba diving section.

Rockstar recently published three lengthy trailers that introduce the game's three protagonists -- Michael, Franklin and Trevor.

The motion-capture and voice acting displayed in those teasing clips were brilliant, though I would like to see a little gameplay footage to reassure me that Rockstar hasn't lost sight of the basics. Biting satire and cinematic moments are all well and good, but if we could skip the bit where you have to restart a mission for the fiftieth time because the lorry you're driving took too much damage, that would also be ace.

Based on trailers and screens we've seen so far, the game is certainly looking spectacular, though it'll be interesting to see if it looks just as magnificent when it's actually running on the Xbox in your living room. If this is indeed a realistic glimpse into what Rockstar's newest effort will deliver, there's reason to be very excited.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is due out in September for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. There's no word yet on whether it'll be coming to the PlayStation 4 and mysterious next Xbox.

Are you excited for GTA5? Or is there another game you're more keen to see? Let me know in the comments, or on our Facebook wall.
