Taking Netgear's Arlo out for a stroll (pictures)
The highly versatile Netgear Arlo kit gives traditional DIY security cameras a lot to think about.
The $350 Netgear Arlo security kit comes with a hub and two cameras (international pricing and availability has not yet been announced, but is expected this year; pricing converts to about £233, AU$448). There's also a $200 kit that comes with just one camera.
The cameras are battery-powered and can work indoors and outdoors.
They have a 720p resolution and night-vision capabilities.
They have a magnetic backing so you can stick them directly to magnetic surfaces or use the magnetic mounts to secure them to walls, fences, door frames, trees and more.
These small, unassuming cameras can be placed pretty much anywhere.
Netgear claims Arlo cameras can operate up to 300 feet from the hub, but that will vary by location.
The camera's LED will blink amber when it's too far from the hub.
Netgear offers a free cloud storage option with these cameras, so you don't have to pay a monthly fee to enjoy some limited server benefits.
