Do you have a new iPad Pro? Curious about getting a keyboard? Logitech's Slim Combo has potential. But it's better on the 12.9-inch Pro (left) than on the 10.5-inch Pro (right).
Unlike Apple's own Smart Keyboard, the Slim Combo case has a back cover as well as a front cover for either model.
The 10.5-inch model has a long plastic detachable keyboard that magnetically snaps into the Smart Connector port on the bottom.
It makes the iPad Pro look like an ugly laptop.
But it has lots of features: a rear adjustable-angle kickstand tilts the iPad at lots of angles.
The backlit keyboard is great, too: lots of travel, and a row of dedicated function keys for volume, screen brightness and more.
The case can be used without the keyboard, making it an excellent desk stand.
But the case is generic-looking black plastic.
And it's really bulky.
The Pencil-holding loop juts out even when a Pencil isn't there.
The keyboard base and stand have a long footprint on a desk, too. But at $130, it's a lot less than Apple's Smart Keyboard, and offers a case too.
The Slim Combo for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro is a lot better, though. It's oddly more compact.
The keyboard cover folds under, taking up less space on a desk.
The Slim Combo isn't lap-friendly in either model, but on the larger Pro it feels like a better match for desktop use (I hardly use the 12.9-inch Pro in my lap, anyway).
The adjustable stand is great on both models, but the 12.9-inch Pro feels like a desk monitor with it attached.
The larger keyboard on the 12.9-inch model is less intrusive.
The cover is thinner, too, and fits the iPad better as a case.
Either way, the Slim Combo is best as a desk tool, and not as wonderful as a travel laptop case in tight spaces.
