The Oliso SmartHub & Top is a countertop sous-vide machine. Sous vide is a method of cooking in which vacuum-sealed food cooks in a heated water bath.

The SmartHub can be used as an induction cooktop with pots and pans you already own.

The display on the Oliso SmartHub shows the set temperature, the current water temperature and a timer when you're cooking. A different set of features appear when you use just the induction hub.

The Oliso system is available on the company's website for $500 (roughly £330 or AU$680), a price that's on par with similar countertop systems.

The Oliso SmartTop can get heavy and cumbersome when it is filled with water. At one point, the top weighed 25 pounds (11.3kg) when I filled it with water.

Oliso plans to introduce other tops that work with the SmartHub, such as a griddle top.

I Got an Early Look at Intel's Glass Packaging Tech for Faster Chips
Rahul Manepalli, right, Intel's module engineering leader, shows a glass substrate panel before it's sliced into the small rectangles that will be bonded to the undersides of hundreds of test processors. The technology, shown here at Intel's CH8 facility in Chandler, Arizona, stands to improve performance and power consumption of advanced processors arriving later this decade. Glass substrates should permit physically larger processors comprised of several small "chiplets" for AI and data center work, but Intel expects they'll trickle down to PCs, too.
