Ascend Mate2 4G arrives at CES
LAS VEGAS -- Equipping it with a large IPS display, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, and a 13-megapixel camera, Huawei does it big this year at CES with its Ascend Mate2 4G. The handset will be available starting in China at the end of the first quarter.
Some quad-core power
Powering this mammoth's innards is a quad-core 1.6GHz processor from Qualcomm.
Thin, but heavy
Measuring just 0.37-inches thin, the handset is slim, but sturdy. However, at a weight of 7 ounces, it did feel heavy in the hand.
Big and bright display
The smartphone has a 6.1-inch, 720p IPS display that you can still touch even with gloves on. It ships with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and features Huawei's Emotion skin, which includes customizable themes and a mode for one-handed operation.
Snapping a pic
On the back is a 13-megapixel camera that features an f/2.0 aperture and a back-illuminated sensor. It can also shoot 1080p HD video.
A 5-MP shooter in the front
On the front is a 5-megapixel shooter. One interesting photo feature is a vertical panorama option that can capture expansively long images.
Sticking with the classics
The Ascend Mate2 4G is available in two colors (black and white), with the white model featuring metallic silver trimmings and a glossy back surface.
Room to expand
The handset has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. If you need more room for your photos and videos, you can expand the memory up to 32GB via a microSD card.
Keep on truckin'
Decked out with a non-removable 4,050mAh battery, the device reportedly offers about 12 hours of Web browsing.
Pick of the litter
Huawei will release several accessories for its new flagship, including colorful cases (pictured here), Bluetooth headsets, and backup batteries.
Just a peek
A closeup of the phone case reveals a small vertical preview window on the right, which users can quickly view for the time and phone notifications.
