The Guardian has released a few tidbits of information on some new mobile applications, notably its much-anticipated iPad app, and an Android app as well.

In an article posted to its website, the pleasingly-fonted broadsheet shared screenshots of the upcoming tablet app, which will be delivered in daily bursts, and -- like the extremely popular iPhone app -- will be subscription-based.

At the moment, the Guardian iPhone app costs £2.99 for six months, or £3.99 for a year's worth of newspapery goodness. That's reasonable, but we wouldn't be surprised if the scaled-up version costs a little more. There will be a free trial period when the service launches though.

The screenshots seem to show an expansive, tile-based interface, and we suspect photography will be a strong point. Click the big image above to see the two screenshots we've been shown so far.

Also in development is an Android app, which The Guardian promises will be "truly Android native". Something's being cooked up for the HP TouchPad too, called Guardian Zeitgeist, but we'll have to wait and see what that is.

It's a big day for the Guardian's mobile division -- the Kindle edition of the newspaper also goes live today, and packs content from that day's paper. There's a 14-day free trial (Amazon link), and a subscription costs £10 per month, or 99p per issue.

Do you use the Guardian iPhone app? Are you psyched for the iPad version? Or has your interest in digital papers and magazines waned? Let us know in the comments or on our Facebook page
